Adding ZIP barriers as part of the installation of automated pit covers for TEC Namur-Luxembourg (Part 2)
Having a bus inspection pit known as an "American pit," TEC Namur-Luxembourg needed a specific protection system. Dalis Pit Covers was tasked by the Walloon Transport Operator to install ZIP barriers to secure the pit in their workshop located in the province of Namur.
Installation of ZIP barriers for a bus inspection pit
This specific system is equipped with modular guardrails made of sliding steel tubes. A control bar allows for gripping and simultaneous locking.
This device is mainly placed on the parts of a maintenance pit that cannot be covered by a conventional safety curtain because the area is wider. This is what is called an "American pit." The bus is then cantilevered over the rear axle. Mechanical intervention is therefore carried out when the vehicle is positioned "straddling" the greasing pit.
Within the TEC workshop, the retractable barrier system was equipped with a volumetric detector. This device allows triggering a siren in case a bus approaches too close to the barriers. Indeed, if they have not been lowered, the driver may not see them because his visibility is not wide enough. This alert informs him that he must stop to avoid damaging the installation.
Installation of automated, secure, and ergonomic pit covers
This new installation adds to the placement of three automatic pit covers in the new TEC Namur-Luxembourg workshop located in Malonne, in the province of Namur. Each pit curtain had to meet strict criteria such as:
- Easy handling;
- Ergonomic, efficient, and intuitive use;
- Compliance with current regulations in the field of pit covers;
- A reliable system to ensure the safety of workers at all times.
The pit protections put in place were designed to meet all the characteristics and requirements specified in the specifications drawn up by the prevention advisor of TEC Namur-Luxembourg. Among these, there was notably an automated closing device for maintenance pit covers so that they could close automatically if no bus is currently being inspected.
